are exercises to teach you how to read rhythms. There are only two chords in each exercise--C and Bb power chords (root and fifth only). This is so you can concentrate on the rhythmic part of the music and not the melodic/harmonic part. The excercises are each 32 bars long and start out very simply with whole and half notes. They progress rapidly into more complicate rhythmic excercises with a lot of syncopation. At the bottom of this page is a .gif of Power Chord Rhythms # 4. I have also saved each excercise as a midi file which can be played on your computer and/or sequencer. The midi files also have drum parts to give you another musician to play with. The drum parts are hidden in the notation files. If you have a sequencer you can adjust the tempo of the midi files up or down to match your ability to read the music. You can open the midi files in most notation programs to see the guitar and the drum parts. Remember that the guitar parts should be written an octave higher than they sound. Here are a couple of the midi files. If you can't get these files to play, see if your browser has a plug in for midi. Check out the following links for more information about midi: ActiveX, Apple Quick Time, Yamaha MIDplug. If you have any questions about midi or anything else on these pages email me at:stringler@mindspring.com
